The
Alabama Shakespeare Festival brings holiday magic to the River Region with its
spectacular production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, November 23
through December 23. Adapted for the stage by ASF’s producing artistic director
Geoffrey Sherman, this production
involves more than 30 actors donned in lavish 19th century costumes
and performing a on a magnificent set
replicating the streets of London.

One Festival Drive in the heart of Montgomery’s beautiful Blount Cultural Park.
A
Christmas Carol tells the tale of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who experiences the
Christmas Eve of his life after he is visited by the ghost of his former
business partner. The influence of three more ghosts and a remarkable little
boy, Tiny Tim, lead the spiritual recluse on an epic journey to redemption. A
unique quality of the Sherman adaptation integrates the character of Charles
Dickens into the story. In real life Dickens was an avid and respected amateur
magician. In the play, Dickens literally adds touches of magic to his own
timeless tale.
A Christmas
Carol
will feature ASF favorite Rodney Clark
as Ebenezer Scrooge and Wynn Harmon
as Dickens. Alternating in the role of Tiny Tim will be Charlie Hill and Liam South.
Others
in the cast include Brik Berkes, James
Bowen, Seth Andrew Bridges, Michelle Geisler, James Logan Hall, Greta Lambert, Jason Martin, Chris Pappas, Seth Rettberg,
Laura Selmon, Billy Sharpe, Alice Sherman,
Jim Staudt, David Umansky, Diana Van Fossen and Jillian Walker.
Of
special note, mother/daughter cast members Diana Van Fossen and Alice Sherman
will be performing together for the first time at ASF under the direction of
husband/father Geoffrey Sherman.
Young
talent from the River Region will also be part of the A Christmas Carol cast.
They include Curtis-Oliver Lane, DuncanSouth, Matthew Bush, Alan Gothard, Ella
Grace Johns, Sophia Kerr, Laura Bailey, Frances Brown, Stella Mitchell and Rose Powell.
The
artistic team is led by author/director Geoffrey
Sherman. Billy Sharpe will serve as assistant director. The remainder of the
artistic team includes Joel Jones
(Musical Director), Brett Rominger
(Musical Supervisor), Paul Wonsek
(Scenic Designer), Elizabeth Novak
(Costume Designer), Phil Monet
(Lighting Designer), Richelle Thompson
(Sound Designer) and Susan Willis
(Dramaturg).
Jen Nelson Lane will serve as stage
manager. She will be assisted by Hannah-Jean
Farris and Katy Swan.
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival is among
the largest Shakespeare theatres in the world. Designated as The State Theatre
of Alabama, ASF has been located in Montgomery since 1985 when it moved from
Anniston as a result of Mr. and Mrs. Wynton M. Blount’s gift of a performing
arts complex set in the 250-acre Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park. This
